The Catholic wedding ceremony includes also the civil aspect of the marriage but to do this, the couple must in any case prepare the documentation outlined below for the Civil Ceremony. If you wish to avoid the bureaucratic civil part you have the choice to wed civilly in your country beforehand and have then only the religious ceremony here in Italy. The religious paperwork must be prepared in your country, following your Diocese’s requirements and the instructions of your local parish priest. Once the documents are ready, they must be sent to the Church where you will be getting married, according to our instructions. Please note that the Catholic Church will not permit the marriage of non-Catholics: as long as one or both are Catholic that is allowed. Also please note, even if Italy is a Catholic country, not all catholic churches will allow a ceremony for couples coming from abroad. As part of our wedding planning service, we can give you suggestions about the churches where this is possible. Many churches already have an English speaking priest available. When this is not the case, we can source a priest who will speak your language.
